We don’t teach leadership theory—we develop real leaders who take action, inspire their teams, and drive meaningful results. This is accomplished by following a few simple steps. We will intro each of our principles, dive into the principle, and then integrate that principle into the leadership evolution.   

About

Founder Michael Matton

At Sentinel Leadership Consulting, we believe that strong leadership builds strong organizations.

Our founder, Michael Matton, brings more than 24 years of law enforcement service—retiring at the rank of Sergeant—to the mission of developing leaders who inspire trust, accountability, and lasting culture change.

Throughout his career, Michael was entrusted with building programs and leading teams that shaped the future of his department. From creating the first official Field Training Officer program and coordinating it for 12 years, to serving as a defensive tactics instructor and crash reconstructionist, his focus was always on developing people and improving systems. When the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police came to the Acushnet Police Dept. to begin a program ensuring compliance with DNA collection laws Michael was tasked with organizing a team to work to that goal and managed departments fleet operations and budget with an eye toward both efficiency and readiness.

Promoted to Sergeant, Michael’s leadership took on new challenges during the pandemic and the social justice movement. Drawing on years of training—both formal and self-directed—he implemented leadership practices centered on building relationships across ranks, agencies, and the community. In recognition of his dedication, Michael was honored with the department’s Distinguished Service Award upon his retirement in 2023.

Michael’s leadership journey began well before his law enforcement career. In roles across industries—from printing and photography to training new hires in a large bakery—he consistently gravitated toward positions of responsibility, mentorship, and growth. These experiences laid the foundation for his belief that leadership is about serving others and preparing the next generation.

Today, through Sentinel Leadership Consulting, Michael helps organizations at every level build leaders who foster accountability, strengthen relationships, and create cultures where people and organizations thrive.
